I agree with you, the SRAM is good for video RAM because is very easy and fast to access. I don't know if I will implement these modes. I think people later has to become more involved and try to do it. This is not very difficult.

Once Windows 3.0 boots, running at 640x480x16. And old games are running at 320x200x256 too, I will focus on upgrading the processor to 32 bit then becoming a 386.

No, no, I'm not displaying anything. It's just because Quartus II automatically puts the unused pins option to ground, so then all the 7 seg LEDs are illuminated. And also the TX and RX leds for the UART. But this is not important... I will add now a floppy disk image into flash to boot MS-DOS, as right now I don't have any SD card...

Well done.

I am pleased you are making use of the DE1 I sent :D

Post here when you have the Keyboard and Flash "Floppy Drive" going and I will load it in to my DE1.

Maybe you can use the 7 Segment dispay and a switch as a Turbo Switch and display.

It was pretty common on early clones to have a turbo button to up the clock speed from 4.77MHz to say 8 or 12MHz ;)

in the assignments under device you have the button i/o options. there you can set the unused pins to input three-state. looks a bit better.
btw, an uart, there is a wb core...

The Altera DE1 port is done, except for the SD card controller. Check out the new 0.5.1 version.

Is this the core ?

http://www.opencores.org/?do=project&who=uart16550

A serial port will make the core much more useful for a lot of people.
